A Denkanstoß
Today I was reflecting on being young in age versus being young in experience with a certain skill or subject. This came about when I followed drawing instructions. And only halfway through the Pinterest tutorial did I notice that the resource stated it was from Drawing Lessons for the Young Artist.
I have to admit to a degree of ego crumbling when I noticed this.
After a couple of minutes, my CBT training kicked in and I simply reframed it as “being young in skill.”
And being young in the art of teaching, and young in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) when being highly professional in one’s own subject can be challenging!
It creates a juxtaposition in our professional identity. Where we are both at the same time, expert and novice.
Allowing ourselves to be a novice again can be scary. It can cause cognitive dissonance and in bad cases even lead to an identity crisis.
So here is my Denkanstoß for you: How are you being a young artist again in the art of Teaching?
